Atrius Health offers a number of classes that can help you with your health resolutions, whether they are to decrease stress, get stronger or help identify a desired behavior change and make a plan for achieving it.

Check out the classes below to see if they might support you in reaching your healthy goals.

Learn To Meditate and Relieve Stress

This course is for anyone who is interested in learning how to relax or reduce stress through meditation.

Meditation can bring balance, rest, and a growing inner peace to those who practice it. The benefits to both the mind and body can impact a person on many levels – mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. In this eight-week series, you will be taken step-by-step through techniques that will allow you to incorporate meditation into your daily life and experience its many benefits. You will learn how to:

  • Reduce tension and stress at will,
  • Feel happier, more relaxed, and at peace with yourself,
  • Improve your health, mental clarity, and vitality, and
  • Discover and explore your inner spiritual nature.

These hour and a half sessions take place once a week for eight weeks.

Class begins on Monday, January 23, 2017 at our Braintree practice, located at 111 Grossman Drive. To register, please click here or call Health Education and Promotion at 877-439-5465.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) class

This program is for adults who are experiencing stress in their life. It teaches participants how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain and illness.  Classes include:

  • Guided instruction in mindful meditation practices,
  • Gentle stretching/mindful yoga, and
  • Group dialogue.Participants are also given a home assignment each week which is a big part of the effectiveness of the course.Mindfulness has become popular for many, very good reasons. There is a growing body of research proving the benefits of mindfulness for both physical and mental health. Especially intriguing are the studies over the past few years using brain scans that show how practicing mindfulness physically alters the structure of the brain in a positive way.

The course was developed in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn in Worcester at UMASS Medical School, so there are over three decades of research supporting the results. We have adapted the original course curriculum to eight, 75-minute classes with a half-day retreat, and we limit class size to twelve participants.

Classes begin on Monday, January 23, 2017 at our Kenmore practice, located at 133 Brookline Avenue, and on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at our Cambridge practice, located at 1611 Cambridge Street. To register for either of these classes, please click here or call Health Education and Promotion at 877-439-5465.

Group Health Coaching Experience for Midlife Women

This series of classes is for women between the ages of 45 and 62 who are interested in making lifestyle changes to improve their health. It is conducted by phone from the comfort of home. Led by a certified health coach, this course will allow participants to share ideas, goals, strategies, and support as they work together to bring about positive changes.

Health Coaching empowers women to make positive changes that can improve their health and well- being.  Women often want to reduce stress, become fitter, lose weight or cope with their changing bodies.  By creating a wellness plan and setting specific goals, women begin to take charge of their health.  Coaching helps women break larger goals into “do-able” steps that add up to success, resulting in increased self-esteem.  The Health Coach guides the group by asking questions, listening carefully and leading brainstorming exercises. In this group coaching experience, all of the participants will have a great opportunity to support and learn from each other.

During class, each participant will identify what she most wants to achieve and will create goals to help her meet the desired outcomes.  Topics may include:

  • How to care for yourself given bodily changes of midlife,
  • How to minimize stress, or
  • How to boost your energy and productivity.

Lifestyle changes to help you achieve your goals will be discussed, as well as the successes and challenges in meeting these goals as the class progresses.

These 90-minute sessions take place once a week for six weeks.

Class begins on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. To register, please click here or call Health Education and Promotion at 877-439-5465.
